Marmaris is situated in southwestern Turkey at a point where the Mediterranean joins the Agean sea. 60 kilometers away is Mugla, while to the west lies Datca. Travelling eastward will bring one to Köycegiz, and directly north is the Gulf of Gokova. Dalaman International Airport is only an hour drive away.

The marina recently constructed in Marmaris is the largest and finest in all of Turkey. Hundreds of yatchs dock here, restocking and taking on water, fuel and other necessities before sailing on.

The castle of Marmaris was built in the 3rd millenium B.C. The passing years witnessed Many battles and the castle was destroyed and rebuilt on numerous occasions. It stands directly behind the marina, surrounded by small houses of old Marmaris style. In these houses women make handcrafted articles and other tourist souvenirs, which are bought enthusiastically by visitors to the castle.

The shopping areas of the town are alive with people, eager to buy the souvenirs that come from all over Turkey.
